Galluzzo Deli

Six months ago, brothers Dan & Josh Flamminio “bought a business”, not just any business.

The 90-year-old family-owned iconic neighbourhood Galluzzo Fruit Shop & Deli was up for sale, and the family was looking for new owners to care for and maintain their beloved shop.

Dan and Josh have been supplying the Sydney restaurant and food media scene for a long time and understand the urgency and desire for a perfectly plucked new-season artichoke. They also know the difference between who would be keen to take a box of big or ugly but deliciously ripe plums/pumpkins to go on a menu or for some simply stunning face-value produce to use on a photoshoot—and yes, they are very different requirements.

The shop has an old-world fruiterer shouty vibe. Stock checking for customers occurs from register to storeroom in loud trading floor booms.

It is the kind of place you always pick up something unexpected, and if you don’t, the boys will probably encourage you to.

The deli is stocked full of quality pastas, condiments and cold cuts - the inspiration for any kind of “chuck it in a pan” dinner. If you have the kind of adoptive personality/accent I do, then buy the time you leave, you’ll be carrying a tray of zucchini flowers and some salumi, and you’ll be shouting a thank you back at the shop across the road from the car in the same manner they all converse.

It’s a great experience to feel so part of the family while hunting and gathering for your own. It’s how shops should feel.

Visit them - you’ll see. 187 Glebe Point Road, Glebe, New South Wales 2037
