Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180’c and place the small taco shells on a paper-lined baking tray.
  2. Cut the flathead fillets into 10 cm strips. Dust them lightly with flour, ensuring they're coated evenly, and then sprinkle with Old Bay seasoning.
  3. Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Pan-fry the fish strips for about 1 to 2 minutes on each side, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown.
  4. Once the fish is cooked, remove it from the pan and place it on a plate.
  5. Now, it's time to assemble the DIY fish tacos. Start by placing a slice of cheese on each taco. And place the tray in the pve to melt the cheese. 5mins
  6. Encourage your child to join in the fun by adding their favorite ingredients to their tacos. They can choose from lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, avocado, and any other toppings they like.
  7. As an incentive, offer a small, "revolting" ingredient (something they might not like) for them to consider. This often leads them to select different, more familiar options. Whic, may not have made the cut without the “deterant ingredient. 🙂
  8. Finally, let your child top their fish taco with their preferred sauce. Whether it's salsa, sour cream, guacamole, or something else - sophisticated bbq - this is where they can add their personal touch.
  9. Everyone gets praise for their creative choices!
  10. This recipe not only results in tasty fish tacos but also fosters a sense of ownership and exploration in children when it comes to their food. It's a fun and interactive way to introduce them to a variety of ingredients and flavors.

Notes

On this occasion Beau actually did catch the fish… which was completely empowering. He once ate a mud pie proudly because he “cooked it”
